Washington DC

There is something amazing about being in our nation's capital and seeing all the things that got our nation to where we are. Here's what we did to pack in as much as possible.

First, familiarize yourself with the subway system. $10 and looking at a map can save you lots of time trying to park everywhere. My first stop was at Arlington National Cemetery to see JFKs grave and the changing of the guard (which in the winter time is only every hour instead of every 30 minutes).

Next we went Smithsonian American History museum where you have to make an appointment online to get in. Spent time there and had lunch. Then to the Air and Space museum. It unfortunately was under construction so we didn't get to see everything but I loved all the NASA and space items.

That took all the time we had for the day and on the half day we spent in DC we were able to go to the National Archives and see the Declaration of Independence. This museum is super interactive and you can read a lot of history there. Being a Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, I got to see her families homestead receipt for their land.

Lastly, we saw the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, stopped to take a photo by the White House and went to the beautiful Washington National Cathedral.

If you have never been it has depictions of Mary across the world and really words can't explain how beautiful it was.

All in all, it was amazing to see all of the history that makes us American's and I can't wait to go back and see more.
